Samsung may update the Galaxy Note 7 to Android Nougat this year

Samsung has been criticized in the past for not updating its Android devices in a timely manner. The South Korean electronics giant, however, may be looking to change that starting with the new Galaxy Note 7.

According to the Korea Times, Samsung Mobile President Koh Dongjin said the company is looking to update its devices to Android 7.0 Nougat within the next two to three months. An update before the end of 2016 would be a new speed record for Samsung, although not all versions will likely receive the update at the same time. Unlocked models tend to be updated quicker and are not subject to carrier approval like smartphones sold in the US. 

The update is said to arrive within the next two to three months.

Koh also confirmed earlier reports that Samsung was considering launching the Note 7 in China with 128GB of storage, which would be double the capacity of other markets.
The Galaxy Note 7 will go on sale in the US on August 19. The phone features a 5.7-inch QuadHD display, a quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor, 12-megapixel camera and an included S-Pen stylus.
Samsung did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
